Carlos Alberto Gomes Parreira, born 27 February 1943 in Rio de Janeiro, is a Brazilian former football manager World Champion 1994 ,who holds the World Record of FIFA World Cup participations as manager with six appearances with Kuwait (1982),United Arab Emirates (1990), Brazil (1994 and 2006), Saudi Arabia (1998) and South Africa (2010) !

What a career ! At 25, he began his manager career in Ghana (1968) before returning to Brazil and Fluminense (1974-75). Direction Kuwait in 1978 : he led the national team to the World Cup 1982, won the AFC Asian Cup 1980 and the Gulf Cup of Nations 1982! Another return in Brazil and Fluminense to win the Brazilian Serie A title in 1984. He joined then the United Arab Emirates (1985-1988) to lead the National Team to his first World Cup final stage in 1990 to Italy. Between 1988 and 1990, he took in charge the National Team of Saudi Arabia and won the AFC Asian Cup 1988 ! He returned to the UAE for the World Cup before going back to Brazil at Bragantino (1991) and to take in charge the Brazilian National Team between 1991 and 1994. He won the Amistad Cup 1992 and particularly became World Champion with Brazil at the World Cup 1994 in USA !
Parreira went to Spain at Valencia for one season 1994/95 and then to Turkey one season at Fenerbahce, where he won the Super Lig 1995/96 ! A new stage in Sao Paulo Brazil (1996) and a new challenge in 1997, Parreira coached the MetroStars of the American Major League Soccer ! He was nominated to coach the National Team of Saudi Arabia at the World Cup 1998 in France without success and returned to Brazil at Fluminense , where he won the Serie C title 1999. After Atlético Mineiro (2000), Santos (2000) and International (2001/02), he was in charge of Corinthians in 2002. He won there two of the most important national Trophies , the Brazilian Cup and the Torneio Rio-SaoPaulo, being runner-up at the Brazilian League.
After turning down offers to coach again the National Team of Brazil between 1998 and 2002, he accepted in 2003 and was named coach along with Mario Zagallo as assistant director. He led Brazil to win the Copa America 2004 and the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005. He was crowned that year 2005 by IFFHS to THE WORLD’S BEST NATIONAL COACH.
After Brazil’s exit from the World Cup 2006 in Germany, Parreira resigned and became the coach of the South Africa National Team (2007-2008 and 2009-2010). He won the COSAFA Cup 2007 and was the Head Coach of the National Team at the World Cup 2010 in the country ! Between, he took again in charge Fluminense (2009). On June 2010 he announced his retirement as football coach after 42 years coaching ! He was again involved with the National Team of Brazil as Technical Director in 2012 until 2014, the first time was in 1970 with the Brazilian Championship team at the World Cup in Mexico 44 years before !
